JAMESTOWN, N.D. (10/4/24)---The Cobbers were able to bounce back from a tough race two weeks ago with a huge performance at the University of Jamestown Jimmie Invite.
This is the only meet where the Cobbers travel west to race, and they made the most of it. All 13 of the Cobber's runners got season bests with nine of those being personal bests. The Cobbers had four of their top five runners in the top 30, with all five being in the top 50.
Brady Goss led the Cobbers for the third straight meet, running a season's best time of 26:20 while placing 10th. That finishing time was three seconds off his personal best. This is also the third straight meet where Goss has been inside the top 30 and the first time he has finished in the top 10 in his career.
Following close behind was his brother and placing 12th was Tyler Goss. Goss clocked a season's best time of 26:28, just 10 seconds shy of his personal best and was also 74 seconds faster than two weeks prior. This is the first time Goss has placed inside the top 15 in his colligate career.
Junior Carter Ferber was the third runner clocking a personal best time of 27:08, 26 seconds faster than his previous personal best and was good enough for a 21st place finish, Ferber's highest 8k finish of his career. Ferber is also in his fourth week of running after a bike crash kept him out at the end of the summer.
"Just take it one day at a time and keep fighting," Ferber said when asked how he was able to stay motivated while injured.
Brady Andrews was the Cobber's fourth runner. Andrews raced to a 56-second personal best with a time of 27:42. That time was also over two minutes faster than his time two weeks prior. This is also Andrews's highest-place finish in his career.
Rounding out the Top 5 was senior Lucas Hinojos, who clocked a time of 29:28. He was able to sneak into the top 50 placing 48th overall. Hinojos was over 90 seconds faster than his race two weeks ago.
In total, the Cobber's top five dropped an outstanding 6 minutes and 44 seconds combined. The Cobbers placed fifth out of seven teams and were just 2 points away from 4th-place Dickinson St.
The Cobbers will once again have another 2-week break between races. They will travel to the other border state to take part in the Wis.-La Crosse Jim Drews Invitational on Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m. This will be the Cobbers' last meet before the conference championship which takes place Nov. 2 at St. Olaf.
