Wondering how you can “go green” at Concordia? The opportunities are endless! Currently, Concordia students are leading initiatives and projects with the Student Environmental Alliance, participating as SEA Residence Representatives for the Student Government Association, and sitting on working groups for the Sustainability Task Force.

Student Environmental Alliance
SEA is a student organization that works to bring awareness of environmental and sustainability issues to the larger campus community. SEA has been a leading force in helping Concordia move towards a more ecologically literate campus while pushing for continued progress in sustainability.

SEA has undertaken many projects and played critical roles in the development of a “trayless” dining service, Concordia’s first organic student-run garden, expanding recycling—including glass and ink cartridges—planning events for “Green Week” and “Earth Week”, and organizing a unified student voice. More so, SEA does many fun projects and demonstrations such as the annual winter camp-out by the bell tower.

SEA Residence Representatives
Residence representatives are here to represent student interests by acting as correspondents between Hall Council, Student Government Association, and SEA. Residence representatives are engaged in promoting sustainability in our residence halls in many ways, including furthering the Dorms Recycling Project. You can contact a residence representative by attending a Hall Council or SEA meeting, or by contacting the president of your hall. If you would like to become a residence representative, you can enter the Hall Council election at the beginning of the school year.

Sustainability Task Force
In 2007, the Sustainability Task Force was organized to address the five focus areas of Concordia’s Roadmap to Sustainability. These five areas are:
Each area has a working group devoted to its specific issue. A sixth working group was created in the spring of 2010 to focus on expanding a “green curriculum” in all disciplines at Concordia. These working groups—made up of faculty, administration, staff, and students—have been charged with identifying strategies for implementing “green policies” on campus to reduce the college’s resource consumption and influence the habits of our students.

The groups have worked to prioritize sustainable energy options for Concordia and have worked to reinforce responsible environmental stewardship. Each group is involved in extensive brainstorming and research to be followed by focusing on specific projects relating to their issue.
